Program Description:

You won’t want to miss this month’s special chapter meeting at the Riverside Theater.  Be engaged and participate in a theater-based training technique, focusing on the topics of diversity and workplace harassment. Members of the TCHRA Board and chapter will participate and perform several brief scenes with Geoffrey Scheer, a veteran actor and Managing Director of Access Communications, depicting situations of potential workplace discrimination and harassment. The audience will then be invited to suggest ways the various situations can best be handled, and alternative behaviors will be demonstrated and evaluated. Each scenario will be followed by guided audience discussion to underscore the lessons learned and offer insight into alternative methods of employee training.  Louis Wilson, an employment attorney with Ford & Harrison and TCHRA’s Legislative Chair, will also review legal considerations for HR professionals to consider in addressing such situations. The program is presented with drama, humor and good taste to keep the audience engaged and focused throughout the presentation.

Learning Objectives:

(1) Underscore the importance of diversity and harassment awareness training, from a moral and ethical, as well as, legal and financial consideration

(2) Explore alternative, "outside-the-box" training methods for HR professionals to educate themselves and people in their organization

(3) Emphasize the importance of empathy in training
